Crimson & Crimson is the first expansion in the Crimson & Crimson series, first introduced during the 2022 Pokémon World Championships, and celebrates the return of the Pokémon-ex gameplay mechanics that can appear at any stage of development and feature high HP and powerful attacks and abilities feature.

Inspired by the phenomenon of Teracrystallization from the video games Pokémon Crimson and Pokémon Crimson, the expansion introduces Teracrystal Pokémon-ex with unique embossed illustrations highlighting its Tera-types. These new cards follow the same rules as Pokémon-ex, but do not take damage from attacks while on the Bench.

Some map design improvements are being introduced. The yellow borders of the Pokémon TCG cards are now gray to match the cards released in Japan. This will make the Pokémon Trading Card Game more consistent around the world and better showcase the illustrations on the cards. In addition, subcategories for Trainer cards - such as Supporter, Item and Stadium - appear in the top left corner for better visibility in the hand, Basic Energy cards have another Energy icon in the bottom right corner to make them easier to track during play , and expansion symbols are replaced with expansion codes and language codes on all cards.
Due to global inflation affecting material and production costs, the MSRPs of Pokémon TCG products will be increased at different rates worldwide with the launch of the Crimson & Crimson series. To continue to make the Pokémon TCG a positive experience, each Pokémon TCG booster pack will contain three guaranteed holographic cards - all cards of rare or higher rarity will now be holographic. In addition, certain products come with additional content. The Top Trainer box, for example, contains an additional booster pack and a full-screen promo card.
